Challenge

KRT Collective approached us with a unique request, to help develop and design a workbook around their leadership development program. Our client wanted something nautical themed, but not too whimsical as the document still needed to look professional.

Approach

I designed the cover and interior pages with an abstract wave texture in mind, the result was an agate-like pattern which lends itself to the theme. Agates form slowly overtime as silica-rich water deposits microscopic quartz crystals layer by layer into rock cavities. This concept represents the years of experience required to build strong, experienced leaders. Subsequent pages follow nautical or water-adjacent themed imagery for chapter breaks.

A Content-Intensive Workbook

With tons of text, diagrams and space for writing and notes required, the visual elements were simplified into blocks of color and icons to let the user concentrate on the core topics at hand. Imagery was thoughtfully curated to illustrate the topic of the current chapter.

I created a system of editable variable template pages to account for all necessary content to display, while leaving breathing room and negative white space for the eyes to rest. Generous margins allow ample space for the user to scribble in notes or doodle their thoughts.
